Defending champions Tivoli Gardens got their title retention quest back on track following a 3-1 triumph over last season's main adversary Boys' Town in their western Kingston derby yesterday at the Edward Seaga Complex. Goals by Christopher Jackson (13th), Roland Dean (52nd) and Mitchily Waul (65th) allowed Tivoli to halt an eight-game winless streak; seven of which were league games. Boys' Town's consolation goal was netted by captain Michael Campbell (90+3). The win saw Tivoli reclaim second spot in the 12-team table with 23 points, while Boys' Town slipped one place to eighth on 18 points, having now gone five games without a victory. Tivoli, however, failed once more to end a game with the full complement of players as Jackson was ejected in the 48th minute after striking Boy's Town's Renae Lloyd. Elsewhere, Portmore United made it three wins in three games, in the second round, courtesy of a 47th-minute strike from Adoah Nickle, which was enough to see them by 11th-place Highgate United at Lynch Park. Portmore lead the standings with 27 points; while the loss dropped Highgate, on 14 points, into the relegation zone. Montego Bay United took full advantage of Highgate's misfortune as they scored a surprise 3-1 win over third-place Waterhouse (22) at the Montego Bay Sports Complex. Montego Bay have moved out of the relegation zone to 10th, with 15 points.
The league's leading scorer Levaughn Williams continued his hot streak, as he netted his seventh goal of the season to take his team past Arnett Gardens. Sporting climbed to fourth with 22 points, as Arnett (19) dropped two places to sixth.
Harbour View were the league's biggest movers of the round, as they climbed three places to fifth after defeating Reno 2-0 at the Frome Sports Complex. The Stars of the East got both of their goals from Zane Gouldbourne (eighth and 34th). The lost left Reno in ninth on 16 points, while Harbour View moved up to fifth with 19 points.
After claiming their first victory at the Effortville Community Centre in their last home game, Humble Lion failed to build momentum, as they were outscored 3-2 by Village United. Seventh-place Humble Lion (18) squandered a two-goal lead, which was given to them by Omar Walters (10th) and Gregory Morgan (18th), as Village United came storming back with strikes from Shavnavon McKenzie (33rd), Dino Williams (51st) and Ronaldo Rodney (54th).
Village United are claiming their second win in four games, but still find themselves at the foot of the table on eight points.
