The right day to worship |
|||||
Dear Pastor, I wrote to when I was about 16 years old. At that time, I was in love with a guy who was my strength and pride. I trusted him but my family disliked him. Well, it turned out that it was the biggest mistake of my life. I just thought that I would keep you up to date. Anyway, that is not the reason for this letter. I am now 20 and I met a guy who is 23 and I have fallen deeply in love with him. This time, I know I have found Mr. Right. He is intelligent like myself and he is caring and understanding. We are both about to begin our final year of university. He is always there when I need someone to talk to. We have been friends for years, but we recently decided to take it a step further. I am on my journey back to the Lord and he is a Christian. His dedication to God is what I love about him the most. The reason I am writing to you is that I was raised going to church on Sundays and he is a Seventh day Adventist. We don't agree on which day is the right day for us to worship. He wants us to try and agree on this matter so that we can get married and start a fulfilling life together serving God. He is willing to go to church with me on Sundays and he asks that I accompany him to his church on Saturdays. I look up to you as an inspirational man of God so that is why I am writing to you to ask you what you believe pertaining to what I have just said. Which day is the right day to worship? I am patiently awaiting your response. I also ask that you pray that by the grace of God we will find a way and agree on the right day of worship and that our relationship with the Lord will keep growing stronger with each passing day. S.P., Louisiana, U.S.A Dear S.P., I believe what you are trying to ask is whether it is biblical for a person to observe Saturday as the Sabbath or Sunday be observed as the day many Christians observe as the Lord's Day on which Christians should rest. You asked which is the right day to worship. There is no right day or wrong day. Christians should worship the Lord everyday. And the observance of a day is not as important as to one's personal relationship with God. I understand the Bible to teach that the observance of the Saturday Sabbath is not a Christian requirement. Christ is the Christian Sabbath. Nevertheless, it is necessary for believers to rest one day of the week, and by doing so, he honours the Lord. The early Christians after the resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ, observed Sunday as the day of rest. Whether Christians should observe Saturday or Sunday as the day of rest and worship has caused great controversy for centuries. Your boyfriend has been taught that Saturday is the correct day to worship. You will never be able to change him. He may attend church with you but he will only do so if you agree to attend church with him. Eventually he is going to tell you that he is the head of his household and if you want to marry him, you will have to agree to become a member of his church. I can only wish you well and ask God to guide you. Pastor |
