Police seize illegal firearms

The St Thomas police yesterday seized a semi-automatic pistol on the Hordley main road in Golden Grove in the parish.

Reports are that between 8 a.m. and 2:30 p.m., a team of police was on an operation in the area when they saw a Honda motor car parked beside the road; it had no registration plates. The vehicle and the surrounding areas were searched, and a plastic bag containing a .45 semi-automatic pistol - serial number C237400 - was found.

No one was arrested in connection with the find.

Investigations continue.

This follows the seizure of two illegal firearms during a stop and search operation on the Rocky Point main road on Wednesday by the Clarendon police.

The May Pen police said about 10 p.m., a team was conducting the operation when they signalled the driver of a Toyota Corolla motor car to stop. The driver complied, and the vehicle and its passengers - three males and one female - were subsequently searched.

A Smith and Wesson pistol, a Beretta pistol with serial number BER4795 and fourteen 9mm rounds were seized.

All four were taken into custody. Their identities are being held pending further investigations.
