|
Five employees of Empire Supermarket who were charged with stealing more than $5 million from the supermarket had their bails extended in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on Thursday. Those charged are 27-year-old Natalie Bruta, a supervisor; Shanique Campbell, Vaneica Jarrett, Kerry Ann Levy, and Kimberly Lowe. Each pleaded not guilty to conspiracy and larceny as a servant. They are all to return to court on December 19. It is alleged that the five employees, a supervisor and four cashiers, stole more than $5 million from the Liguanea branch between September 3 last year and April 9 this year. The five employees were charged in April, following an internal audit conducted by the management of the Empire Supermarket. It is alleged that the cashiers and supervisor were involved in entering fictitious cash refund transactions into the system, and pocketing large sums of money from the cash registers. The defendants have denied the allegations and claim that the refund transactions were legitimate. |
