Waterhouse eye RSPL top spot...Duckie hopes 10-man win over Reno fuels run |
|||||
Duckie Waterhouse coach Donovan Duckie is convinced that the fight shown by his team in a 2-1 win over Reno after going down to 10-men can fuel a run towards the Red Stripe Premier League (RSPL) top spot. The Drewsland team played with a man down for all of 70 minutes against Reno on Wednesday after Vincent Earle was sent off in the 19th minute for handling the ball in the area. In fact, Waterhouse were forced to come from behind to claim the points after Nicholay Findlayson scored from the infringement in the 20th minute. Peter Keyes pulled the home team back on level terms early in the second half before striker Jermaine Anderson got the winning goal with a last-minute header. "We pressed on and that was the difference. It was important that we won this game, we need to take the lead now," Duckie said. "I thought we played well today especially in the first part of the game, we had a lot of possession and intensity was really good, all courtesy of Chris Paul our physical trainer. The team was very sharp today; it was unfortunate that we had a setback with a red card." Both teams had chances to score more goals but it was Waterhouse that applied most of the pressure and that told in the 77th minute when Keyes was brought down by Reno defender Glenroy Cooper. Keyes was also instrumental in this goal, as he crossed a ball in the box allowing Anderson to nod home from point-blank range, much to the delight of the coaching staff and fans. Reno's head coach Wendell Downswell was "extremely disappointed with the result". "I thought tactically we played a beautiful first half but I think in the last 15 minutes of the game we lost our discipline and we got individualistic and, as a consequence, we lost the game." |
