Jamaican sentenced to seven years for cocaine

A Jamaican was on Wednesday sentenced to seven years in prison for cocaine trafficking and failing to comply with court orders in Canada.

He is 34-year-old Courtney Ottey, who pleaded guilty to seven charges in Ontario Superior Court.

It is understood that Ottey admitted to selling cocaine while out on bail on another drug charge.

In 2009, he was arrested as part of a massive gang offensive called Project Fusion.

In November that year, he was released on bond, however, his involvement in the illicit drug trade continued while he was under house arrest.

Reports are that police intercepted more than 100 calls relating to drug transactions.

THE WEEKEND STAR understands that last year, 105 search warrants were executed across Canada, and Ottey was among those picked up and charged with drug offences.

At the time, police were targeting 10 persons who supplied cocaine imported from Jamaica and Panama to street gangs operating in Toronto.
