Police have arrested a People's National Party caretaker who is accused of taking money from several people who were seeking visas and overseas employment. Douglas Thomas, who is slated to contest the next General Election for the PNP in the Central St Catherine constituency, was taken into custody recently and has been charged with obtaining money by means of false pretence and fraudulent conversion. Police yesterday confirmed to the THE WEEKEND STAR that Thomas is in custody. The investigating officer said, "No payments would be made at the police station, so persons who were supposed to be arrested must wait until a court date has been served." He also mentioned that Thomas will be brought before the court on Tuesday. Allegations are that Douglas reportedly took money from persons who wanted to gain visas and overseas employment as part of the services his company Excell Job Link, located in Spanish Town, offers. One woman had reported that she forked out $77,000 to the company while another said she handed the company US$2,000. They say they were yet to get any positive word from the business. The investigating officer said more than 50 people have come to the station to make reports and are demanding their money back. |
