Woman charged with simple larceny
Guilty with explanation was the plea entered in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court yesterday by a woman who was caught on surveillance video removing $5,000 not belonging to her from an ATM recently.

Carlene Lewis, of a Kingston 2 address, is charged with simple larceny and is to return to court on December 5 for sentencing.

According to police reports, on August 7, the complainant withdrew $10,000 from an ATM at the Total Service Gas Station in Stanton Terrace using his debit card.

On August 10, while doing an online check of his balance, he discovered that $5,000 was withdrawn from his account without his knowledge on the same day he made the $10,000 withdrawal.

As a result, a report was made to the police.

The cops with the aid of surveillance footage was able to locate the defendant who was seen removing the cash from the machine.

Interestingly, claims were made that the machine might have been malfunctioning on the day.
