Cops investigate claim that ... TEACHER IN AFFAIR WITH 13-Y-0 - Arrest him at school |
|||||
A male teacher was yesterday arrested at a Corporate Area high school after it was alleged that he was involved with a 13-year-old female student, THE STAR has learnt.
Information reaching THE STAR is that sometime after 7 a.m., the Hunts Bay Rape Unit picked up the educator at the school.
Allegations are that the teacher has been involved with the grade-eight student since last year.
A source that works at the school told THE STAR that; "From what I understand he didn't rape her, it was consensual ... He was her form teacher last year."
Further allegations are that sometime ago, the teacher ended the relationship with the student leaving her distraught.
That's when the student allegedly reported the teacher to her mother who in turn filed a report with police.
When contacted, the school principal confirmed that the teacher had been taken into custody.
He noted that it is an allegation, which is a matter for the courts to decide.
He reasoned, "We expect every teacher to abide by the code of ethics and standards. We don't condone any unprofessional act by a teacher. It is a very unfortunate situation."
Furthermore, he said, "I am sending a warning to all teachers to keep their pants on."
In the meantime, the principal said that he has been in dialogue with the student involved and her parents and that the school is in full cooperation with the police.
