Ladylike to catch Pick 3

Jockey Dane Nelson stands tall in the saddle to celebrate his win aboard 4-1 chance LADYLIKE over the front-running 9-5 choice AWESOME CAMILLE (Omar Walker) in the Cash Pot 'Only One For Me' Trophy for two-year-olds at Caymanas Park on October 15. - file

LADYLIKE has already proven that she can catch and beat AWESOME CAMILLE, now it's left to be seen whether EL PATRON just did not like the wet track on October 15 when finishing fourth in the Cash Pot Only One For Me Trophy at 1200 metres.

A heck of a battle is expected in tomorrow afternoon's Pick-3 Super Challenge Trophy at 1400 metres when the country's leading two year olds line up in the second leg of the $5.5m Supreme Ventures Limited Two-Year-Old Series.

series sweep

Howard Hamilton's LADYLIKE will head to post with Dane Nelson again in the saddle, hoping to snare the bulk of the $3.6m purse and get one race closer to the $1m bonus on offer for a series sweep, a feat which has never been accomplished.

She is the only runner in the 13-horse field eligible for the elusive bonus after landing the Cash Pot Trophy, collaring AWESOME CAMILLE a half furlong out and pulling away for a length-and-a-quarter victory.

However, AWESOME CAMILLE and EL PATRON's connections have made adjustments for the Pick-3 Super Challenge.

Trainer Gary Subratie said AWESOME CAMILLE returns better trained whereas EL PATRON has been fitted with a visor by Anthony Nunes.

"It will be the same thing again, right to the front, but they won't catch me this time," Subratie told STAR Sports.

Subratie said though the distance has been increased by a furlong, his filly will prevail this time around, using the same front-running tactics.

"I am not afraid of her," he said. "She won't beat me this time. AWESOME CAMILLE will be the better horse on the day."

Meanwhile, EL PATRON has worked brilliantly in the visor at exercise, clocking 1:13.3 for six furlongs last Sunday morning, the fastest time recorded by any of the 13 runners heading to post tomorrow.

However, according to Markland, LADYLIKE was extremely easy in her workout whereas EL PATRON was ridden flat out.

"EL PATRON worked with a change of equipment, the visor on, but had to be ridden out to pass SAINT THERESA, while LADYLIKE did her work with the jockey patting her on the shoulder in 1:14.4," he said.

Both EL PATRON and LADY CAMILLE were firmly put in their places by LADYLIKE in the Cash Pot Trophy in which she was pulling away at the end.

She continues to please at exercise, happily going through her paces and seems to be the complete package, being able to stalk any pace set and still have enough in the tank to keep the close.
