Man steals from governor general's house
Notwithstanding his ignorance, a man who stole 43 ackees valued at $350 from the official residence of the governor general, King's House, was sentenced to three months' imprisonment at hard labour in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court yesterday.

Junior Christie, 30, of a Kingston 13 address, was convicted on a charge of praedial larceny but admitted to the court that he had no idea that he was at the abode of her majesty's representative when he stole the ackees which amused the court.

Christie accepted blame and later reasoned that he had gone to the premises in search of work as a groundsman when he saw the fruits.

He also told the court that he was raised in a place of safety for boys and "not inna society" which explained why he was unaware that King's House was the residence for the governor general.

According to police reports, on November 19 about 1:05 p.m., the defendant was caught picking the ackees from a farm located on the grounds of King's House.

He was handed over to the police and later arrested and charged.
