Cabbie freed of carnal abuse charge |

|
Failure of the Crown to make out a prima facie case against a taxi operator resulted in him being freed of an carnal abuse charge on Wednesday.
Rohan Thomas was told by Resident Magistrate Natalee Brookes he was free to go after attorneys-at-law Earl Hamilton and Courtney Maxwell made successful submissions that their client did not have a case to answer.
The Crown led evidence that in September last year Thomas, the driver of a taxi, sexually molested a child.
He reportedly took her to St Jago Hills where he had sex with the complainant, who reported she knew him before.
The teenager reported the matter to the police in December (three months later), which resulted in Thomas' arrest.
He was placed on an identification parade and, although he was not pointed out, he was charged.
The accused maintained his innocence throughout his many court appearances. |
