Woman on assault charge to face court
Christopher Thomas, STAR Writer

WESTERN BUREAU:

Olivia Riddock, the woman who allegedly had a tenant gang-beaten because he would not pay his bills, will have her case mentioned before the Montego Bay Resident Magistrate's Court next year.

Fifty-four-year-old Riddock, of Rose Heights in Montego Bay, is charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm against Jason Williams.

When the case was brought up in court on Tuesday, Resident Magistrate (RM) Vivienne Harris was told that the medical certificate is still outstanding.

Consequently, Riddock had her $100,000 bail extended until January 9.

Allegations are that, on October 25, Williams was moving out of Riddock's premises when the accused stopped his car and asked about money he owed her for unpaid utility bills. Williams then said he made arrangements to have the bills paid, but Riddock called him a liar.

Riddock then summoned six men who were standing nearby, armed with sticks. The men ordered Williams out of the car, following which one of them hit him in the face.

The men then beat Williams all over his body, robbing him of his Blackberry cellular phone, and Riddock used one of her shoes to hit the complainant. Passers-by intervened and carried Williams to the Cornwall Regional Hospital for treatment, and Riddock was later arrested and charged.
