Ja snubbed for Australia tour

Cricket fans in Jamaica will not get a chance to see the West Indies play during next year's Digicel Home Series against Australia, as per a West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) release.

The series, which is to be held in April and May, and will include three Tests, five one-day internationals (ODIs) and two Twenty20 (T20) Internationals, will see the games being played instead in five countries in the eastern Caribbean.

The Tests will be played at Kensington Oval, Queen's Park Oval and the Guyana National Stadium. The last two ODIs and the first T20 will be played at the Beausejour Cricket Ground in St Lucia, while the second T20 will be held at Kensington Oval in Barbados.

No reason was given in the release why Jamaica, which traditionally either hosted the start or finish of the main touring team during the regional team's home series matches, was not selected for any of the matches.

Meanwhile, head of sponsorship of Digicel, Karl Donnelly, said as proud sponsors of West Indies cricket they were excited to be hosting one of the top teams in the world.

Expanding campaign

"Cricket invokes a passion and pride that is evident throughout the region and at Digicel, we are committed to building on that fervour by bringing the game directly to the fans," he said.

"Expanding on our 'Wi' All in' campaign, fans across the islands can look forward to a host of unique and exciting initiatives that make the sport, and its heroes, more accessible."

Ticket prices and the West Indies v New Zealand in July next year schedule will be announced at later dates.
