According to the Constabulary Communication Network, the 17-year-old is expected to be charged. His identity is being withheld pending further investigation.

THE STAR understands that classes were suspended at the school on Tuesday, after a 13-year-old student was found with a loaded gun.

According to the police, the student was held following a search that led to the recovery of a 9 mm Taurus pistol and a magazine with 15 rounds of ammunition.

The police have reported that the 13-year-old boy was used by a 17-year-old grade-11 student to take the weapon on to the school property.

On Wednesday, education ministry officials, school administrators and members of the school board met with the police to discuss the incident.

The Ministry of Education disclosed that security is to be improved at the school as there are concerns about the safety of staff and students.

The ministry also noted that a team will visit the school to speak with concerned staff and parents.
