Because the forensic certificate was still outstanding, the possession of ganja matter brought against dancehall deejay Vybz Kartel was again set for mention on December 2. On the same date, the deejay, whose birth name is Adidja Palmer, is also to return to the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court to answer to the murder charge brought against him for the killing of Clive 'Lizard ' Williams. On October 8, Palmer made his first appearance before the court to answer to the possession of ganja charge when he pleaded not guilty. However, his female companion Alecia Jackson, who was also charged with possession of ganja, pleaded guilty and was fined $500 or 30 days in prison. The controversial deejay along with Jackson, Andre St John and Shane Williams were arrested on September 30 at a hotel in New Kingston. It is reported that a small quantity of ganja was found and all four were arrested and charged for ganja possession. One of Kartel's three attorneys Michael Deans had requested that the court drop the ganja charge against his client, but Senior Resident Magistrate Judith Pusey rejected that request and ordered that the prosecution and defence discuss the matter and come to a decision. Kartel is also being represented by attorneys Tom Tavares-Finson and Christian Tavares-Finson. On Monday, October 3, the artiste was also charged with murder, conspiracy to murder and illegal possession of a firearm. It is alleged that on Monday, July 11, 2011, Palmer along with other men conspired to murder Barrington 'Bossie' Burton , a 27-year-old businessman and promoter from Gregory Park, St Catherine. Burton was murdered while he was standing with friends along Walkers Avenue in Gregory Park. Vybz Kartel was later slapped with a second charge for the murder of Williams. |
