PAULA GORDON, STAR Writer The restrooms of a known food court in Half-Way Tree, St Andrew, have become the hot spot for underage children to indulge in sexual activities, THE WEEKEND STAR has learnt. When THE WEEKEND STAR visited the area recently, signs were seen posted on all bathroom doors by the management of the establishment stating that, 'Sexual activity in the bathroom is absolutely forbidden'. It is understood that a recent crackdown by the police on students loitering at the Half-Way Tree bus park has led some student to migrate to the food court. Since migrating there, the students are said to have being engaging in sexual activities and have been held and chased from the bathrooms on a number of occasions. Their actions forced the management to erect the signs. However, since the signs were posted, several customers have expressed their shock and disbelief.
One woman who saw the sign expressed, "People can really have sex ina dem ya place yah."
Another customer said, "It must really bad fi dem affi put up sign fi stop people."
Close inspection of the ladies restroom revealed that although cleansed daily the area was still unsanitary. The stench was also found to be almost intolerable.
Speaking with a representative from the company that manages the food court yesterday, THE WEEKEND STAR was told that the signs were being contemplated for a long time but in recent times there has been an increase in the amount of sexual activity taking place in the restrooms.
"In recent times we had an upsurge and it was reported that it was underage kids. The signs were put in place to try and deter persons from engaging in the activities," the representative said.
It was also noted that since the signs were put in place there has been no
reported incidents.
When contacted for a comment, the Half-Way Tree police said they were not aware of any such incidents happening in the area.
In regards to the crackdown at the bus park, it was noted that the police are always on patrol in the area and if students are seen behaving in an uncontrollable way they would be spoken to. |
