Upcoming dancehall artiste Daminance said he is about music, as taking sides in the business only decreases the audience. Born in west Kingston and now residing in Portmore, the artiste said that his style of deejaying is different because he has spent time in different societies. "I was born in west Kingston, went to school in Waterhouse and now I live in Portmore, so that mixture gives me a different meditation," he said. The artiste said his performances are always good and his material covers all corners. "I always please the fans because I have everything, I do positive songs to teach the youth, and mi have some for the gangster and for the ladies," he said. According to Daminance, most young artistes tend to pick sides, either Gaza or Gully, to get exposure, but that is not his formula. "Dem a pick side but am being different, I want them fi accept me for who I am, so I work on being unique and the response always great," he said. The artiste said his reluctance to join a side may have restricted his advance in dancehall, but he is still fixed on doing his own thing.
"Am not signed to any label as yet, and I think It's because am different and trying to do my own thing. Mi respect the general, Bounty, and Vybz Kartel, but mi naah tek nuh side ... when yu tek side yu decrease yu fan base," he said.
Daminance says another reason which hampers the development of young artistes like himself, is because senior artistes have burnt bridges.
"Even if you are talented, they don't want to help you because of betrayal. Some artistes diss elders and people who gave them a chance, so those people don't want to work with young artistes," he said.
The artiste recently released a song, Heart Beat, which, he said got relative airplay, but, even that, he said it is a struggle.
"Mi guh bankrupt after mi start push the song because it's expensive to promote, and radio station naah play songs without money," he said.
The video was shot by Stevie Fresh, and can be found on YouTube.com.
The artiste is making plans to release a new single and video to be released in 2012.
"Industry players stop mek it hard suh fi wi, open up the gate dem and, disc jockey, stop mek wi pay ... give wi a chance," he said.
Daminance also took the opportunity to highlight some of his fellow upcoming artistes.
"Big up Chicken, K Keer, Prince Villian, Bwoy, Chronic, Luddy and Ziggy," he said.
