RAYMOND GRAHAM, Star Writer Marvette Anderson, coach of The Queen's School, believes the team has a lot of work left to do, despite a convincing 54-26 win over Bridgeport High in the ISSA Corporate Area Netball competition, at the Leila Robinson courts on Thursday. With several members of the all-conquering junior squad, which include Sade Ffrench, Khadijah Williams and Melissa Wright, promoted to the senior team this year, they seemed a well-oiled machine as they took apart the Bridgeport resistance. Ffrench at goal shooter and Williams at goal attack, picked up from where they left off last year with excellent field goal percentages. But, although pleased with the win, Anderson believes there is much room for improvement if they are to lift the title. "We started off a bit slowly, but the girls picked up as the game went on, but there are some grey areas and problematic areas we need to work on," Anderson told Star Sports. It was double success for Queen's yesterday as their new-look junior team was too much for Ardenne as they ran out to an easy 28-16 win. The team will, however, have a tougher encounter in their next outing as they will face a formidable Camperdown High School team, which steamrolled St Jago High 29-11. impressive win The east Kingston team was led to their impressive win with good play from goal shooter Kestina Sturridge, goal attack Shaiecka Sinclair and centre Sade Smith. Defending senior champions St Hugh's was also off to a good start, with a win in their encounter against former champions Wolmer's, who they defeated 36-28. Other senior winners were St Andrew, who stopped Meadowbrook 45-15; Excelsior who beat Tarrant 33-30; St Jago who stopped Camperdown 22-17 and St Catherine High who stopped St Andrew Technical 22-17. Following Queen's and Camper-down victories in junior action were St Hugh's, who beat Campion 35-17; Norman Manley who stopped Vauxhall 27-22; Holy Childhood with a narrow 24-23 win over Mona High and St Catherine High who easily outplayed Campion 35-17. The competition will continue next Tuesday at the same venue, at 2:00 p.m, with six junior and senior matches.
