Man gets 6 months for counterfeit notes

A 28-year-old man who pleaded guilty to about 10 fake $1,000 bills was sentenced to six months imprisonment at hard labour in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court yesterday.

He is Carl Beckford from a Kingston 2 address.

Beckford has been charged with the Possession of counterfeit currency notes and uttering counterfeit currency notes.

Allegations are that on October 29, about 8 p.m., on duty police officers acting on information, went to the accused man's home and conducted a search.

It is alleged that after the search was conducted in Beckford's presence, a counterfeit $1000 note was found.

It is also reported that Beckford made purchases with the counterfeit money.

The accused also confessed to the court that he had nine more counterfeit notes, in addition to the one that was found by the police.
