A Surinamese man who expelled 24 pellets of cocaine was fined $700,000 in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court yesterday.
He is Maikel Djenel Dorder, 45, taxi operator of Paramaribo, Suriname. Dorder pleaded guilty to charges of possession of, dealing in and importing the drug, and conspiracy to import cocaine. Dorder was fined $300,000 for possession or spend 12 months, but he did, however, have his dealing in cocaine charge admonished and discharged. For importing cocaine, he was fined $400,000 or 12 months. In addition to the fines, he will spend two years in prison. It is alleged that on October 24 about 12:40 p.m., the accused Dorder entered the island on an Insel Air Flight. He cleared immigration and customs when the police got certain information about the accused.
The accused was found and then interviewed. However, the accused gave inconsistent answers. A sample of the accused urine was requested and he consented. But, after several failed attempts, the accused was taken to the Kingston Public Hospital, where he was X-rayed.
The doctors reported to the police that unidentified objects were seen in his lower abdomen, hence he was admitted. He later expelled 24 cylindrical shaped parcels which all contained powdery substance resembling cocaine weighing 8lb. |
