After ill-tempered outburst over breadfruit ... Man fined for assault |

A man accused of assaulting a woman after she retrieved roasted breadfruit had thrown away, was fined in court yesterday. Kiyan Campbell of a Kingston address, was charged with assault occasioning bodily harm. He pleaded guilty with explanation in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court and was fined $25,000 or six months in prison. Allegations are that on September 1, about 9:45 p.m., the complainant was at her house watching television when the accused, her mother's boyfriend, came by. When the complainant said her mother was not at home, the accused became ill-tempered and started throwing away breadfruit which had been prepared by her mother. The complainant was retrieving the breadfruit when the accused told her to leave them alone and get back inside the house. She, however, refused. The accused allegedly approached the complainant, hit her in the face and pushed her to the ground. The police were called and Campbell arrested and charged. |
