Popular clergy man Al Miller, who was last month convicted of criminal negligence for the loss of his firearm, was fined $80,000 or three months in prison. The fine was imposed when the case was mentioned yesterday in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's (RM) Court. RM Lorna Shelly-Williams said that based on the evidence presented by the Crown, the pastor was criminally negligent in losing his firearm. However, the Miller claimed that he should not be held criminally liable for the loss of the weapon. Allegations are that on January 22, at about 6:30 p.m., Miller left his weapon in his car when he stopped to pick plums on the playground of the Shortwood Primary and Junior High School. It is reported that the pastor's pouch containing his licensed firearm, a .38 revolver, and some cash was on the floor of his vehicle. It was reportedly later discovered when he arrived home, that his pouch with his firearm and its other contents were missing. The matter was reported to the Constant Spring Police Station. |
