American fugitive found guilty of murder
A 34-year-old American fugitive who was reportedly captured in Jamaica in February 2009 and deported to the United States (US), has been found guilty of murder.

He is Paul Edmond Carpenter, who was on Monday found guilty of murder and is now facing the possibility of life in prison without parole.

THE STAR understands that a jury in California returned a guilty verdict in the case of Carpenter who was charged with the 1998 shooting death of a German tourist near Santa Monica.

He was found guilty of first-degree murder and three counts of attempted second-degree robbery stemming from the incident.

The jury spent a day and a half deliberating its decision.

The victim was Horst Fietze, a 50-year-old tourist from Germany who was visiting the US with a group of friends.

Carpenter, his girlfriend and two others tried to rob the group on October 12, 1998.

During the failed attempt, Fietze was fatally shot.

It is reported that Carpenter, a US citizen, was arrested and deported from Jamaica to Los Angeles in 2009, as a result of an investigation by the FBI, the US Marshals Service, the Jamaica Constabulary Force and the Santa Cruz Police Department.

He had been working in Jamaica using false identification.
