Tragedy struck in St Elizabeth on Monday when a two-year-old boy died after being hit by lightning.

Dead is Tyreek Stewart of Tenkie in the Maggotty area of north St Elizabeth.

Reports are that the toddler was holding on to the dress of his grandmother, Carlene Jones, as she cooked a meal in the kitchen of their home when the lightning struck.

THE STAR understands that Jones received burns to her legs and sections of the house were damaged as a result of the lightning strike.
