Portmore's Wanderers broke Frazers Whip 31-game unbeaten streak in league matches in the parish, dating back to two season's ago in Division two, as the Edgewater-based club triumphed 4-3 in a seven-goal thriller in a LIME St Catherine FA Major League match, at the Passagefort field last Saturday.

The win lifted Wanderers to four points from three games while, Frazers Whip, arguably the top team in the parish last season, dropped their first points in three matches and remained on six points.

It was 17-year-old Hydel High student Samar Rowe that nodded home the winner in the 83rd minute, much to the joy of the Edgewater community members, who cheered from the sidelines.

Rowe cleverly directed an Andrew Richardson cross from the right side to an unprotected corner of the Frazers goal, which proved to be the clincher. Rowe transferred from Bridgeport to Hydel this school year and have to sit out a year before being eligible to play in the ISSA/Gatorade/Digicel Manning Cup.

In the meantime, Frazers had a disastrous start to the match as an own goal by Larando Reid, who in error headed powerfully into his own net, giving Wanderers an unlikely lead in the fifth minute. Kemar Beckford equalised for Frazers in the 12th minute, while Ricardo White gave them the lead from the penalty spot in the 22nd minute with his first of a pair of penalties.

dominated possession

However, Wanderers struck two deadly blows in the 26th and 42nd minutes, with goals from Andrew Richardson and Delroy Small, respectively, to go into the half-time break up 3-2. The fitter Frazers Whip team dominated possession in the second half but seemed to have lost the knack to score goals. They were, however, handed a gift when Wanderers defender Ricardo Johnson handled the ball inside the penalty area in the 78th minute. White stepped up and scored the spot kick to make it 3-3. It was then left to schoolboy Rowe who delivered seven minutes from full time to give his club a well-deserved victory.

Wanderers coach Tyrone 'Fidler' Roberts was happy his players delivered.

"We put a little training this week and we hoped that the players turned up today.

"We had 13 players that turned up today that are good players, and once we put them in the game I know they can do it, and they did it today," said coach Roberts.

Rayon Gordon coach of Frazer's Whip said that the loss was a wake up call for his team.

"I'm disappointed with the result but I can't kill the guys some where down the line you have to lose and is better to lose from now.

"We were over confident and the players were playing their own game and not the team game and we paid the consequence."
