Tivoli Gardens' assistant coach Alvin Shaw was left bemoaning his team's faulty shooting as they failed to get the better of cellar dwellers Village United in their National Premier League sixth-round encounter yesterday at the Trelawny Stadium, after the two teams played to a nil-all draw.

Despite the result, the defending champions retained leadership of the 12-team standings with 15 points, courtesy of four wins and three draws.

Tivoli went into the encounter the most prolific team in the league with nine goals and boasted the competition's top scorer in Mitchly Waul, who has netted four goals.

no breakthrough

The Glendon 'Admiral'Bailey-conditioned unit had additional reason to feel confident of taking all three points, as Village are second in goals conceded only to Boys' Town, who had some goals placed against their name in the boardroom. Despite all these factors, however, Tivoli for the first time this season were unable to find the breakthrough to hand the Villagers their first point of the season.

"We went there expecting the three points, but they (Village) played a very good game," Shaw stated.

"The shooting in general let us down, as we got a few chances that we should have being put away.

He added: "The important thing is that we didn't lose and we are still at the top of the table."

Tivoli's result allowed Sporting Central to close the gap by a point, as they moved to 14 points after a 56th minute strike by Levaughn Williams saw them pass 11th place Montego Bay United (six).

Humble Lion, still searching for the first win at home, for the fourth consecutive home game failed to do so, after being held to a nil-all draw by Reno at the Effortville Community Centre. The point took the Lions up to 12 points, while Reno moved to nine.

Arnett for the second consecutive game had a player sent off, as Ricardo Smith was given his marching orders in the 78th minute in their match away to Highgate. The Paul 'Tegat' Davis-coached Arnett were, however, able to secure a nil-all draw to progress to eight points, while Highgate is up to seven.

Portmore United also closed the gap on the leaders, joining Sporting Central on 14 points after a 1-0 win over Boys' Town. Rivals Harbour View and Waterhouse played their way to a 1-1 draw.
