Men charged with embezzling over $500,000

Two St Catherine men charged with embezzlement, of more than $500,000 had their bails extended when they appeared in the Spanish Town Resident Magistrate's Court last Tuesday.

They are Mark Roffe and Lincoln Green, both labourers of Old Harbour, St Catherine.

When the men appeared before Resident Magistrate Marcia Dunbar-Green they pleaded not guilty.

Detective Corporal Andre Brooke told the court that between January 27 and May 15, both men worked as delivery men at at a gas company in Old Harbour, St Catherine. The policeman said during this period the men would collect money on behalf of the company. They were said to have produced their own receipts.

An audit by the company resulted in the scam being revealed. A report was made to the police.

Brooke led an investigation and it revealed that money totalling $536,532 was taken by the accused men.

They were subsequently arrested and charged with embezzlement. They are being prosecuted by Clerk of Court Lori-Ann Cole-Montague.

Both men are scheduled to reappear in court on March 8.
