Accused robber remanded

A student accused of going on a robbery spree at the University of the West Indies, Mona campus, was remanded when he appeared in court on Friday.

Ricardo Mitchell, 22, from Manchester appeared before the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court to answer several larceny charges.

He pleaded guilty to two charges and is to return to court on October 26 for sentencing.

Mitchell, who also pleaded not guilty to two additional charges, will return to court on January 30 for trial.

It is alleged that on October 14, Mitchell stole a black knapsack bag from the Molecular Biology Lab containing a pink iPod, US$50 and J$500.

On Wednesday September 21, the accused allegedly stole a bag from the Geology Lab containing an external hard drive, four flash drives, a blue MP3 player, a laptop and $2,000.

It is also alleged that on another day the accused stole TT$100, A NCB credit card, and a RBC debit card.

It is understood that following the incidents, Mitchell's photograph was posted on the campus and he was taken into custody after a warrant was issued for his arrest.
