PAULA GORDON, STAR Writer
In today's society where 'fake hair' has become so prevalent, THE STAR has learnt that nurses from a known nursing school in Kingston are prohibited from sporting the highly popular trend. Information reaching THE STAR is that students attending the institution are asked to conform to the guideline or face disciplinary action. "Dem say we can't wear false hair as nurses because a nurse have to have a certain look," one student said. Another student who said she does not think the rule is fair explained that appropriate extensions and hairpieces should be allowed. "Yuh have some false hair dat can put in to look natural," she expressed. When contacted, a representative from the school confirmed that it is indeed true that students are prohibited from wearing artificial hair. She reasoned, "The false hair that the young ladies choose to wear does not complement the uniform. Most of the girls love to wear the full house wigs. Another practice is that they like to wear their hair on their collars; we can't allow that because of the regular rule for a nurse's attire, your hair should not touch your collar." She further explained that the nursing students are permitted to wear braids, however, it must be neatly put together in a 'bun'. The representative also explained that many of the students who enrol in the programme that lasts one year and three months conform to the guideline, however, there are those who don't 'soak' in so easily. |
