Family, school at odds after ... 13-Y-O PASSES FILTH IN NURSE'S OFFICE
SHELDON WILLIAMS, Staff Reporter

A 13-year-old boy who defecated on himself recently during a high-school devotion before relieving himself again on the floor of the nurse's office is now at the centre of a disagreement between his family and the school principal.

While the family claims that the child's bowel action was accidental, the principal believes it was deliberate.

THE WEEKEND STAR was informed that the incident took place last Wednesday at a prominent high school in St Thomas.

A relative of the boy, Sharon, told THE WEEKEND STAR that she and the rest of the family is displeased with how the situation was handled by the principal because he treated the child unfairly and was inconsiderate because it was an accident.

On the other hand, the principal claims that based on information he received from his vice-principal and the school nurse, the action of the student was premeditated.

"The child was having a bowel problem while in devotion and had to make his way to the bathroom when the faeces fell on him messing up his uniform and shoes," Sharon remarked.

She added, "He then went to the school nurse who ran him from her office in his condition and called him evil."

She explained that the child had become so ashamed that he wondered from the school compound and went to hide in bushes, even though he was not feeling well, to prevent other students from seeing him.

fainted

According to her, if a teacher had not seen him in the bushes probably the boy could have collapsed and/or fainted without anyone knowing.

"In addition to the trauma the child had gone through, they even wanted to give him 10 days' suspension," Sharon reasoned.

Interestingly, she explained that the following day, she along with the child's mother and another relative visited the school to have dialogue with the principal about the incident and he was utterly rude in his remarks.

Sharon told THE WEEKEND STAR that the principal had asked the child if he is a dog because only dogs walk and litter. "He is utterly rude to call the child a dog because he is implying that we are a family of dogs," Sharon emphasised.

When THE WEEKEND STAR made contact with the principal, he confirmed that he met with the boy's family but provided another version of what took place.

"The boy defecated on the floor of the nurse's quarters and there's a toilet only three feet away. He walked past two or three bathrooms and went to the nurse's floor ... he took off his shirt and pulled down his pants and defecated on the floor ... that is the report I got," the principal outlined.

He added, "The boy was trying to make his escape when the nurse saw him."

According to the principal, "It was a destructive and malicious act against the school."

Meanwhile, director of communications at the Ministry of Education, Colin Blair, told THE WEEKEND STAR that the ministry is aware of the incident and an investigation will be launched.
