|
A man who appeared before the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's court yesterday shedding tears told the court that he would consider taking his own life because of his impoverished existence.
Leroy Hylton, charged with possession of ganja, was escorted to the courtroom in handcuffs by a police officer and immediately interrupted the court's proceedings as he hollered about his impoverished circumstances as tears ran down his face. He was immediately placed in the dock at Resident Magistrate Judith Pusey's request. It was while inside that he shouted, "me will kill myself inno ... me hungry inno ... me hungry." After he calmed down, he was fined $500 or 30 days for possession of ganja. The defendant explained that he uses the small proceeds made from the drug to feed himself. It is alleged that on the day of the incident, the defendant was searched by the police and found in possession of the contraband. He was later arrested and charged. |
