Christopher Thomas, Star Writer

WESTERN BUREAU:

A 19-year-old shoe vendor was offered $100,000 bail in the Montego Bay Resident Magistrate's Court yesterday, after it was alleged that he punched a policeman in the eye during a confrontation.

Tichroy Jones, of Barracks Road in Montego Bay, pleaded not guilty to unlawful wounding and assaulting a police officer.

Jones admitted to Resident Magistrate (RM) Sandra Wong-Small that he had come before the court on a prior charge of robbery with aggravation, for which he is to return to court on November 9.

Meanwhile, the prosecution told RM Wong-Small that the medical certificate in the wounding case is still outstanding, and requested eight weeks for it to be placed on file.

Jones was offered $100,000 bail, with instructions to report to the Freeport Police Station every Monday and Saturday between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. He is slated to return to court on December 14.

Reports are that on October 10, Jones was in an altercation with the officer, during which he punched the cop in the eye, causing bleeding. The officer sought medical attention, and Jones was arrested and charged.
