Legal secretary sentenced for theft

A 39-year-old legal secretary, convicted of stealing more that $3 million, was sentenced to two years' imprisonment in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on Tuesday.

She is Debbie Ann Parkinson, a mother of four and a resident of May Pen, Clarendon, who was sentenced on ten counts of fraud.

Parkinson was convicted of stealing $3.5 million from her boss, attorney-at-law Michelle Naylor.

Allegations are that between October 2008 and February 2009, Parkinson collected large sums of money on behalf of her employer.

However, she pocketed the money instead of lodging it to the law firm's account.

Naylor uncovered the theft and called in the police.

Investigations led to the arrest and charge of Parkinson.
