Assistant coach granted bail

Forty-six-year-old assistant coach Nathan Brown of the Jamaica Swim Team was granted $250,000 bail when he appeared in the Gun Court yesterday.

Brown has been charged in connection with the robbery of more than $2.5 million from Empire Supermarket in Cross Roads, St Andrew.

As a condition of his bail offer, Brown was ordered to surrender his travel documents and report three times per week to the police.

Brown, who is charged with robbery with aggravation, illegal possession of a firearm and shooting with intent, will return to court on January 9.

Allegations are that on August 27, two men, one armed with a gun, entered Empire Supermarket and robbed the establishment.

It is reported that the men escaped on a motorbike.

The police intercepted the bike at the intersection of Lyndhurst Road and Beechwood Avenue.

It is reported that Brown was held, and cash amounting to $2.6 million was allegedly taken from him.

The other suspect reportedly escaped with the firearm.
