Heineken Igloo, The Ocho Rios Edition, held on Heroes' Day, Monday, October 17 at Ocho Rios Bay Beach, was a fitting climax to the party weekend in St Ann.
In spite of threatening showers, party lovers turned out in their numbers, several dragging their igloos with them, packed with ice and drinks. The beach was quickly jam-packed after gates opened at 2 p.m., as patrons crammed the venue to get their taste of Coppershot, ZJ Liquid, Timeless, Illusion and copious amounts of Heineken. Selector Al Pacino started the party after the showers and as the crowd grew, kept the vibes going. He later gave way to the first of the advertised selectors, Coppershot, who went into some dancehall selections and got the crowd rocking. Timeless and Illusion took over an hour later and kept the vibes flowing and the patrons dancing with hip-hop/dance selections. Radio jock ZJ Liquid then took over and the vibe continued. Liquid started slowly with some R&B before moving into some hip hop. Chi Ching Ching later took the microphone and performed briefly, inviting Liquid to share the spotlight, which he did by going over a few lines from a couple of his songs. One lucky patron, Marika Wholas, originally from Montego Bay, but who is currently visiting the island from Florida, won the prize of a Heineken-branded igloo packed with Heineken beer, given to a patron who purchased six-pack Heineken.
Bob Sprengers, country manager for Heineken, said he was quite pleased with the turnout and was happy with the event overall.
"Heineken Igloo is a staple on the entertainment calendar. The Ocho Rios edition worked out very well, and I'd just like to thank all our consumers for showing support," Sprengers said.
