Residents of the Bog Walk community make their way around this section of the main road in Shenton where the road has collapsed. The roadway started to break away last year but has finally collapsed due to the recent rains, and is now seriously affecting residents who traverse this way to and from Bog Walk from the Riversdale and Knollis communities. - Ricardo Makyn

Residents of Shenton in Bog Walk, St Catherine, are hoping that there will be no rain until a portion of the road in their community has been repaired.

"Each time the place look like it's going to rain we start to worry about it. We are concerned about our safety if there is an emergency," Brigette Barnett said, while trying to cross on the edge.

THE STAR was told life has become difficult in a number of ways since the road was cut away. The road is a link to West Prospect, Riversdale, Glengoffe, Harkers Hall, Knollis and other areas.

must be fixed now

"The road must be fixed now. Just up the road we have Tulloch Primary School, the health centre and several business places, so it is a vital road," Malcolm Treasure, a taxi driver said.

THE STAR was shown two ponds that are contributing to the erosion of the road.

"The culverts that usually take away the water have not been cleaned therefore, the water lost its course and rush on to the road," a resident told THE STAR.

Meanwhile, councillor of the Bog Walk Division, Dr Raymoth Notice, said the Member of Parliament Natalie Headley continues to make representation for the road to be fixed.
