A customer care agent who is charged with receiving stolen property pleaded not guilty and had her bail extended until November 30 when she appeared in court yesterday. Stacy-Ann Arnold, 23, from Gordon Town, St Andrew, appeared before Senior Resident Magistrate Judith Pusey. The senior magistrate ordered that an additional charge of extortion be laid against the accused. The court heard that on Tuesday, September 27 about 1:30 a.m., the complainant was outside his office along Oxford Terrace, Kingston 5, when he was held up at gunpoint and robbed of his Blackberry 9700 cellphone valued $56,000. Sometime after, the complainant allegedly made contact to the stolen phone by way of Blackberry Messenger and found that the phone was in the possession of the accused. It is alleged that the accused made a deal for the complainant to pay over $15,000 to her for the phone to be returned. The matter was reported to the police and on October 12 the complainant set up a meeting with the accused at the Brooklyn Supermarket on Hope Road. The accused was arrested after she was caught trying to carry out the transaction. When cautioned she said, "My cousin bought it for me." |
