Two remanded for kidnapping, assault

Two men accused of kidnapping a man and beating him to a pulp pleaded not guilty and were remanded when they appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court yesterday.

They are Owen Cousins, 29, and Errol Mahoney, 43, who have been charged with felonious wounding, kidnapping and robbery with aggravation.

Both men are scheduled to return to court on October 27 for mention.

It is alleged that on Thursday, October 6, about 9 p.m., the defendants and two other men accused the complainant of breaking into a black Mitsubishi Pajero motor vehicle along Ivy Green Crescent in St Andrew.

It is further alleged that the defendants kidnapped the complainant and took him to an area in Allman Town where they and about 16 other men beat him.

Following that, the men took the complainant to the Allman Town Police Station where they handed him over then left hastily.

The court heard that the complainant in turn made a report to the police that he was beaten and robbed of his Nokia cellular phone and $600.

The attorney representing the men said that his clients strongly deny the allegations. He also said that the police have failed to investigate the car break-in.

Nevertheless, the investigating officer told the court that the defendants made no report that their car had been broken into.
