Barber charged with assault for 'fool' haircut

A Jamaican man living in the United Kingdom is now before the courts as a complainant after a barber shaved the word 'fool' in inch high letters on to the back of the head, this according to a report in the Bristol Evening Post.

According to the report, Michael Campbell, 35, who has no formal qualification in hairdressing, had been working at Jam Cuts Barbershop on Stapleton Road for three weeks when Michael Ricketts,49, walked in on February 11.

Bristol Magistrate's Court heard that Ricketts is a 'vulnerable adult', who mumbles his words and is difficult to understand.

The court also heard that Ricketts asked for a 'short back and sides' haircut but unbeknown to him, Campbell shaved the word 'fool' with a smiley face underneath.

It is understood that it wasn't until his pastor noticed the word that he was made aware of it.

Giving evidence, Campbell told the court that Ricketts had asked for a pattern to be shaved into the back of his head.

He said he had shaved the word 'cool' with a smiley face but it had been misinterpreted. He said he got the idea from an old advert for a soft drink. He also said he had not noticed that Ricketts had learning difficulties.

Campbell was subsequently found guilty of common assault.

The case was adjourned until November 4 when he is to return for sentencing.
