Probation report ordered in assault case

A probation report was ordered for a case involving a self-employed woman accused of burning her 15-year-old son on his legs, and using a piece of board to hit him on the knee in court yesterday.

The woman Tracy-Ann Brown, 38, from a Kingston 13 address, broke down in tears while Senior Resident Magistrate Judith Pusey was reprimanding her.

She is to return to court on December 15 for sentencing.

Allegations are that in 2007 the accused used a heated clothes iron to burn the child on his legs because he disobeyed her order to outstretch his hands while she was beating him.

It is also alleged that sometime in 2010, the complainant was told by his mother to take a bath before going to bed. However, after eating his dinner he fell asleep.

The court heard that later that day the accused used a piece of board to hit the complainant on the knee causing pain.

The court also heard that the child was not taken to hospital until a week later, and that he was admitted for one week as a result of the knee injury.

The woman initially denied the allegation but when the child's statement was read, she sought to explain herself.

The child who also shed tears in court said, "Mi neva usually hear when she talk to mi still."

Despite that the woman was told that her actions were cruel.
