Kartel to make bail application
Attorneys representing popular deejay Vybz Kartel are expected to make a bail application for him in court today.

The deejay, who was recently slapped with the charges of murder, conspiracy to commit murder and illegal possession of firearm, will appear in the Gun Court Division of the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court.

In addition to the bail hearing, a judge in the Gun Court division is expected to examine the evidence against the entertainer before deciding whether a prima facie case has been established.

In an interview yesterday, one of the attorneys representing the deejay, whose real name is Adidja Palmer, said that that the prosecutors are relying on weak circumstantial evidence to convict him.

The attorney, Christian Tavares-Finson, was speaking two days after prosecutors served defence attorneys with documents related to the case.

He further said that he would comment in detail on the allegations against his client when he appeared in court.

Palmer was charged in connection with the shooting death of St Catherine businessman/ promoter Barrington Burton.

Burton was shot and killed while standing with friends in Gregory Park, St Catherine, in July.

The popular entertainer has been in custody since he was held along with three other persons at a New Kingston hotel three weeks ago for possession of ganja.
