Landlord kills tenant over fleas?

Rasbert Turner, Star Writer

A man who has been accused of killing his tenant because of the abundance of fleas in the house was remanded when he appeared in court.

The accused man is Dave Kenlock, a 35-year-old labourer of Braeton, Portmore, St Catherine.

Dead is Norman Smith, 49-year-old labourer of the same address.

When the case was mentioned, the accused was remanded until October 18 when the matter will again be mentioned.

The defence attorney told the court that the accused was also injured in the confrontation and so it was a case of self-defence.

The Crown, however, pointed out that the post-mortem certificate is still outstanding and the accused was therefore remanded.

Allegations are that on September 13, Smith and the accused had a disagreement.

The disagreement is said to have stemmed from the accused man telling Smith that he needed to stop his dog from spreading fleas in the yard.

The argument between the two is said to have turned into a fight, during which Smith was stabbed. He later died in hospital.

An investigation was launched and Kenlock was charged with murder by Detective Constable Ricardo Johnson of the Portmore police.
