Fifty pounds of cocaine valued at $48 million were found today at Berth 9 (Port Bustamante) aboard the Vega Azurit. The vessel, which arrived from Guyana, was targeted by the Jamaica Customs Contraband Enforcement Team and officers from the Jamaica Constabulary Force. A 40ft refrigerated container declared as being empty was searched and five boxes labelled Coke, Pepsi and Canada Dry with white powdery substance resembling cocaine was found inside. The drug was removed and taken to the Transnational Crime and Narcotics Division where it was tested and weighed. No arrests were made in connection with this seizure. |
