Kartel back in court today
Controversial deejay Vybz Kartel is expected to reappear in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court today when the matter concerning possession of ganja charge against him will further be mentioned.

The deejay, born Adidja Palmer, pleaded not guilty to the charge and was remanded in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on Friday.

However, his female companion Alecia Jackson, who was also charged with possession of ganja, pleaded guilty and was fined $500 or 30 days in prison.

The controversial deejay along with Jackson, Andre St John and Shane Williams were arrested on September 30 at a hotel in New Kingston.

It is reported that a small quantity of ganja was found and all four were arrested and charged for ganja possession.

One of Kartel's three attorneys, Michael Deans, had requested that the court drop the ganja charge against his client, but Senior Resident Magistrate Judith Pusey rejected that request and ordered that the prosecution and defence discuss the matter and come to a decision.

Kartel is also being represented by attorneys Tom Tavares-Finson and Christian Tavares-Finson.

Meanwhile, St John and Williams, the two other accused persons, were not brought to court as the court was informed that they are wanted by the police for murder.

Meanwhile, THE STAR understands that Kartel is to be brought back to court on October 13 for his first hearing into murder-related charges.

On Monday, October 3, the artiste was charged with murder, conspiracy to murder and illegal possession of a firearm.

It is alleged that on Monday, July 11, 2011, Palmer along with other men conspired to murder Barrington 'Bossie' Burton , a 27-year-old business- man and promoter of a Gregory Park address in St Catherine.

Burton was murdered while he was standing with friends along Walkers Avenue in Gregory Park.
