Cop held scrapping seized car?

Crystal Harrison, Star Writer

A police constable is now in custody after he was allegedly caught red-handed stealing parts from a seized motor vehicle on a station compound in the Kingston Eastern Police Division.

Interestingly, THE STAR understands that after the cop was held, he collapsed and had to be rushed to the Kingston Public Hospital.

The constable was reportedly caught with a civilian removing the vehicle parts last Sunday, sometime after 11 p.m.

He is said to be attached to the Motorised Patrol Division.

Information reaching THE STAR is that officers at the police station were about to go on the road when they spotted the constable and the civilian removing the vehicle parts.

THE STAR understands that when the constable was approached and cautioned, he identified himself as a police officer and begged for mercy.

"Me a beg a bly," he reportedly said, before collapsing.

The police are waiting on a directive from the director of public prosecutions, Paula Llewellyn, to charge the constable.

Meanwhile, the civilian has been charged with simple larceny.
