Father charged with cruelty to child after girl refused to loosen hair

A October 20 mention date was set in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court yesterday for a father who has been accused of beating his five-year-old daughter with a hose.

He is 28-year-old Carlton Harvey, who has been charged with cruelty to child and assault occasioning grievous bodily harm.

Harvey is from a Stony Hill, St Andrew address.

Allegations are that on August 21, Harvey told his daughter that she should loosen her hair, but she refused.

It is reported that the accused then used a hose to beat the five-year-old, causing bruises and cuts to her hand and other sections of her body.

THE STAR also understands that the angry accused also used the hose to wet his daughter's hair.

The child was taken to the Bustamante Hospital for Children by her mother and a report was made to the police.

Following investigations by the police, the accused was arrested and subsequently charged.
