Victim of robbery in disabiltiy centre feel emotional effects

SHELLDON WILLIAMS, STAFF REPORTER

Three months after gunmen stormed a disability centre in Portmore held up a member of staff and demanded money, the victim is still feeling the emotional effects and is hopeful that the police can find the culprits.

"I still have that shock when it reaches that hour in the evening. I have to go home ... I can't stay late at nights anymore, it's still frightening," Teisha told THE WEEKEND STAR.

She also told THE WEEKEND STAR that, "I still talk to the police every now and then, but they are yet to bring anyone to justice."

THE WEEKEND STAR had previously reported that the incident took place about 8:15 p.m. at the Portmore Self Help Disability Organisation on Baptist Road in the Christian Pen area in July.

The staff member in describing the incident told THE WEEKEND STAR that she had to beg the two gunmen to spare her life repeatedly. She said that she told her attackers that she only has one leg and had no valuables worth stealing.

"One come over me with the gun while the other one stood at the door keeping watch," she told THE WEEKEND STAR.

According to the employee, she was alone at the centre working on her computer when the men entered.

She was robbed of a chain and her bag searched and thrown to the floor after nothing valuable was found.

Her cellphone was also taken from her but later returned as one of the gunmen flung it to the floor, leaving it behind before they escaped.

The woman who was grateful to still be alive was, however, disappointed that the gunmen decided to rob her even though she was obviously disabled.

The Gregory Park police had confirmed the incident.
