The St Catherine South police seem to be living up to their promise of regulating the Port Henderson Road after they recently raided the popular strip and arrested 61 persons.
The raid which was conducted on Saturday was conducted between 12:30 a.m. and 2 a.m., and saw 31 men and 30 females being held.
"The police will continue to take them off the street as we intend to bring some respect to the area. Last week, we arrested more than 30," said Superintendent Clive Blair.
Blair, who was in charge of operations for St Catherine South, said that it appears as if the area is being targeted by persons from other parishes.
When THE WEEKEND STAR visited the area several business persons said that prostitution is having a negative impact on their investments.
"Yes, the police need to continue the good work in keeping them off the street. Them too much and now the men are taking over," a businessman said.
Other persons said the police need to keep up the pressure as criminality has affected their investments.
Their views echoed that of Mayor Keith Hinds, who said the prostitutes are giving the stretch a bad name.
According to the mayor, the hoodlums need to "Tek weh demselves" and that the police must continue their work.
Meanwhile, there is also an increase in police presence in the area. |
