Portmore resident faces embezzlement charge
Rasbert Turner, Star Writer

A Portmore woman who has been accused of swindling more than $500,000 from her employer was granted bail in the sum of $250,000 when she appeared in court recently.

She is Natalie Campbell, 29-year-old phlebotomist of Waterford, Portmore, St Catherine, facing an embezzlement charge.

When Campbell appeared in court before Resident Magistrate Marcia Dunbar-Green, she pleaded not guilty.

Defence attorney Courtney Maxwell in applying for bail told the court his client is not a flight risk and will turn up for court.

Bail was granted on condition that she returns to court on November 1, when the case will again be mentioned.

The court learnt that between May 2010 and September of this year, $536,000 was embezzled.

It is alleged that patients who attended the lab for blood tests and other services were overcharged.

The overpricing was discovered when a patient came with a prescription that showed this and arose the suspicion of an employee.

This resulted in an investigation which led to Campbell's arrest.
